Donation Criteria

The Foundation runs an annual campaign, and annual Pride Party, and other events to raise funds. As such, the foundation plans for sponsorships, cash donors, and product donors to be all directed toward accumulating funds for its sponsored refugees or specific services elated to the event.

For the Silent Auction, sale items, or item raffles, the foundation will request corporate and personal donors provide products and services that can be sold or auctioned the night of the patio party or other events with little or no cost to the Foundation.

Items that may incur a cost to the Foundation, or items that cannot guarantee to recoup greater funds than the cost of the item through sales, will not be accepted. In some cases, a budget may be requested for sale of products to ensure surpluses can be made on the proposed product. Suggested donation items or events that do not produce a surplus will not be accepted.

The Foundation reserves the right to accept or reject any donation or product donation for any reason it deems reasonable.

If you wish to donate a product or service, or suggest a donation, please email donate@endoftherainbow.ca

Value for product donations for Silent Auctions

  • The value of products and services are generally for $400 or more.
  • Items valued under this amount are typically not used in silent auctions.
  • Some items may require minimum bids, but not all items.
  • Items will be researched to ensure the stated value match retail prices.

Products and services valued under $400

  • Generally, items under $400 are not used in silent auctions and are used in the coupon book or other sales.
  • Items may be grouped together to create different value of sale items, coupon booklets, or auction items.
  • The lowest value of all combined items in a coupon book is never below $100 and $400 in an auction item.

Product types

  • The Foundation will accept products deemed high quality, useful, and in demand for the target market of the Foundation donors.
  • Suggested items that tend to sell well are:
    • Travel, art, useful items to the target market and may be demanded by a large group of the attendees of an event.
  • Items that do not tend to sell well:
    • Crafts, small items, highly abstract art, heterosexual themed items, products oriented to a highly specific target markets (only a few people of the attendees of an event).
  • Items that do not match the target market of the Foundation donors will not be accepted.
  • The organizers may reject any suggested item for donation.

Art Donations

  • Art donations must be a high quality.
  • The artist name, a short bio, and description of the art is typically required. Generally, artists are from the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
  • Art must be original and submitted by the artist or verified owner.
  • The value of the art is the retail sale price, or sale price valued by an independent evaluator.
  • The value cannot be less than $400, although the final bid to sell the art may be less than the value of the art.
  • Photos of the art must be submitted prior to being accepted. A physical viewing may be requested.
  • Art items are curated. Pieces that are noted to not fit the demand history of the Foundation donors, be better sold as craft, or of low value may not be accepted. The curators reserve the right to reject any potential donation.
  • Given that the Foundation has LGBTQ+ events, art is encouraged to have LGBTQ+ themes. This may include nudity, partial nudity, and sexual behaviour. However, regardless of the content, it must have an artistic merit and match a possible sale with the target market of Foundation donors. For example, purely pornographic photos, heterosexual images, or landscapes would generally not be accepted.
  • Given the experience of the organizers, curators may identify to artists that some art (although of high quality and value) may not sell well with Foundation donors, so suggest different art pieces be submitted by the artist.
  • Art copies, reprints, or items infringing copyright are not accepted.

Charitable Receipts

  • In all cases, the Foundation only gives charitable receipts based on Canada Revenue Agency rules and regulations.
  • Charitable receipts are not provided for any product or service donation on its own.
  • A charitable receipt may be provided if the product donor asks the Foundation to pay an invoice for the item, and the product donor then submits back to the Foundation the same value in cash as invoice payable for the item.
  • Invoices for items must be retail value or the value identified by an independent assessor. Overpricing the value items on invoices will result in the invoice and product being rejected.
  • The Foundation can provide a charitable receipt for any cash donated to the Foundation.
  • The Foundation cannot provide a charitable receipt for an amount of a product larger than the cash donation given to the Foundation.
  • The Foundation must agree to such a charitable donation exchange.
  • The Foundation generally does not provide charitable receipts for only retail receipts or independent assessment submissions. The item must be provided along with a cash donation of the same value as the itemized invoice.
