Board of Directors

Kelly Ernst, President

I founded the End of the Rainbow Foundation in 2017 after being urged to do so from many community members. Now retired, I was previously Chief Program Officer of Centre for Newcomers. Before then, I served as Executive Director, Calgary Outlink; President, the Strategic Intelligence Alliance; Senior Program Director, Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership; and President & CEO, Canadian Outcomes Research Institute. In addition to 20+ years in executive positions, I had two decades being a psychologist, researcher, and business owner. I have advocated for and taught human rights and civil liberties for more than 4 decades. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Calgary, later completing Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management from Harvard Business School, and more education at Université de Perpignan in France. I have served on many boards, helped to found organizations, and I have been published in articles, books, and many op-eds. You might find me biking, curling, hiking, traveling, or creating unique art pieces in my spare time.

Jason Ho, Vice President

I’m Jason. I was born and raised in Vietnam. I finished University in Singapore, spent several years in the US, before finally moving and settling down in Calgary. I am currently a VP of Technology at a Legal tech firm in Alberta, enabling individuals and people globally access to legal forms and assistance. I started volunteering for Outlink in Calgary when I first arrived here as an immigrant in 2012 and began to connect with a lot of great organizers and volunteers in the city. I am invested in building a better 2SLGBTQI+ community and also a better experience for immigrants and refugees in Canada. I have been on the Board of End of the Rainbow Foundation since 2019. When I am not geeking out over books, computers, and video games, I (try to) swim, cycle, and walk my dog while catching Pokemon on my phone.

Terry Broughton, Treasurer

I have been volunteering with End of the Rainbow since 2024, shortly after retiring. I grew up in Calgary, then had the chance to live and work in 6 other countries with Shell, including 5 years in Asia (China and India), 4 years in Europe (Norway, Denmark and the UK) and 4 years in the US. Adjusting to life in different countries increased my empathy for newcomers to Canada, and volunteering with End of the Rainbow is my way of helping make their transitions easier.

Steven Van

My name is Steven Van, and I’ve been a board member of the End of Rainbow Foundation since 2019. I’m also a senior investment advisor for RBC Private Wealth Dominion Securities. I was born in Vietnam to a Chinese ethnic family. Shortly after the fall of Saigon, we left Vietnam in a boat. I was a child at the time when my mother informed me that I would be boarding a boat to leave the country. She had told me that our chances of survival were only 10%, so I must prepare for the possibility of losing my life. We landed in the Philippines and spent two years in a refugee camp before being sponsored by our brother, whom had just landed in Calgary. It was a life-changing experience, though I didn’t fully comprehend its significance at the time. I simply knew that we had finally arrived in Canada, the land of freedom and opportunity. I am eternally grateful for this country. This is why I am volunteering for this worthy foundation to help our fellow refugees escape their oppressive countries and start anew in Canada like my family.

Tariq Bhanjee

I am Tariq and was born and partially raised in Kenya with Indian ancestry and have lived here for over 35 years.   My career has spanned almost three decades in International Development and Public Health (mostly HIV/AIDs and sexual reproductive health and rights) in over 40 countries.   I have worked with over 100 Canadian and International non-profits in designing impactful program and raising resources (over 650M) to support their mission of supporting vulnerable populations.  I have worked in several positions with international non-profits and UN agencies and currently run a consulting practice focusing on advisory and support services to planning, health and social impact.  Supported by my graduate training in Urban Planning (International Development focused) and in International Public Health, I am driven by moral ambition and practice participatory development and results-based management; focusing on bridging the gap between innovative funding frameworks and actionable, sustainable community impact. I bring a critical perspective human-centered principles of listening, sharing, learning, and growing.  In my spare time I am mostly hiking in the mountains, practicing yoga, or discovering a new place.

Adam Salzman

I’m Adam (he/him), a bubbly, easy-going guy, born and raised in a small community northeast of Edmonton called St. Paul. Calgary has been my home now for approximately 4.5 yrs where I’ve been enjoying finding my friends and community with my husband and our 2 fur babies. My professional career began as a massage therapist and acupuncturist, which took me towards being an educator for both professions. Continuing my favourite hobby of education eventually lead me towards post-secondary administration management in the area of student services, removing barriers to education access. I also fill my time with being a member of the Alberta Working Group for the Regulation of Massage Therapists. In what little free time that I have, I’m a video gamer, a traveller, a gluten-free foodie, and a perpetual student currently working on a Masters. Looking forward to getting to know the members of my community better!

Rocky Law

I was born in Hong Kong and raised in Canada. I bring a deep appreciation for diverse communities and lived experiences to my work. I have been serving as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant since 2016, supporting individuals and families as they build new lives in Canada. Through my work, I have developed a strong commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and helping people feel a sense of belonging. I am fluent in English and Cantonese and is committed to continuous learning. I am currently working on improving his Mandarin, Japanese, and American Sign Language skills. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and staying involved in community initiatives. I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors for End of the Rainbow and to contribute to its mission.

Eric Fung

I’m Eric! I was born in Ottawa then raised in Calgary, and I’ve lived here since, minus four years attending medical school in Edmonton. My work is as a psychiatrist at Foothills Medical Center. I have served as a board member for the Alexandra Centre and gained experience in adjudicative work with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and the Mental Health Review Panel—turns out I am skilled at judging others (professionally, of course). Other interests include music, travel, trying restaurants, and enthusiastically learning things as an adult that I should have learned as a child (biking, swimming, manners).
